Eating and Listening

As I was eating today in convo, I noticed that everyone seemed to be in a rush. I mean no one was really enjoying their food they were just shoving food down their throats and not really paying any attention to the conversation that they were having with their friends. Maybe this was because they were all pre-occupied with homework or with other things going on but it just seemed like no one had any really interest in the other people at the table. Now obviously I can't speak for everyone I was just listening to one table but it struck me as odd.

Today after class I went to my room and imagined I was eating a bag of cheese goldfish. I could taste the salt on my tounge and how the cheese makes the cracker all the better. The crackers themselves felt smooth at times some had tiny bumps of salt on them.

I sat outside of Clayton yesterday on the steps and I also noticed how everyone was in such a hurry. It really made me realize how rushed our society is. We often forget to sit down and take time to appreciate the beauty of simple things such as nature. Everyone that passed by me seemed like they had a million things on their mind and were stressed to the max.

I totally agree, that our generation is completely rushed. Convo is a perfect example. If there's a line for food, you can see the annoyed looks on everyone's face in line. They barely sit down to eat before they're already dumping their trays. Convo is only one example of many. With high-speed internet, text messaging, fast food chains, and all other forms of fast and easy satisfaction, the world just continues to demand quick and easy routes through everything. What happened to patience and working for what you want?

I also agree that everyone at feeding time shoves their food down and is rushed off to somewhere. But then I thought about myself and I am also very guilty of rushing. I think that almost every college student is going to be in a hurry to get somewhere else if it were class, church, a group activity, or a sport.
I was also sitting at convo when I thought about what I was eating and really paid attention to it. I was eating a wrap. Very delicous but when I started paying attention to all the details I became very grossed out. The flavors were incredible I mean some times you would get a hint of one food and at other times the flavors all ran together. But I became grossed out because I began to break down the process of how we chew and what is involved in getting the food broken down and down to our stomach. Then after thinking about chewing I began to watch people chew. One word to sum it up COWS! We chew like cows. Some people chew with their mouths open, others chop, some roll it around...and some just inhail it. EW! So P.S. If you ever want to enjoy a meal thoroughly dont watch other people eat.

Like Matt Strobel, I'm going to imagine eating food. When i am not actually eating food, I am thinking about it. I guess I am a fat kid at heart. the food that I imagined eating was my favorite meal....deer..which I don't get to eat when I'm at Ashland. Deer meat is such a leaner meat than cow or pig and has a unique taste to it. My mouth waters just thinking about it. And as I eat I recall the bow hunt in which it was killed. The deer meat tends to be a dryer texture, since it has no fat, so it may stick to the roof of your mouth a little more. I'm confident in eating the meat knowing that there are no weird additives put into it.

I returned to my room and imagined that I was eating a bag of sour patch kids. Imediately my mouth started to water, and flavors were running through my mouth. Delish.

Today when I was eating at convo I took more notice to how I eat my food, particularly my chicken. It was like I was in Knight Templar days because I never notice that I eat it really fast and use my hands. I want to get out of there so I am not late for class, but I always have 20 extra minutes. I do clean my hands though, because I grab about 30 napkins. The chicken is never dry which is great. I really enjoy the skin because it has interesting herbs on it that create a flavorful clash of goodness in my mouth.

One of the biggest problems with our society has come from the fact that we are in such a rush. And sitting down in convo you will see that. People are rushing to get to meetings, class, practice, etc. I wish people would just sit down and enjoy their meal and the company around them. This however cannot always be the case as people always have something they need or should be doing. I know that i prefer to be busy rather than bored, so in a sense being rushed isn't always a bad thing as long as it's not in excess.

after a hard practice of flipping logs and pushing trucks i went into convo. i didnt feel like eating at first because i iknew i would puke if i did so i got 2 glasses of red powerade and just sat there and drank it. i focused on the taste of the powerade and the coolness of it hitting my mouth it was so good. then i ate every piece of ice it was so refreshing chewing the ice, letting it cool me down
